LeeRoy Derler, age 83 of Dundas passed away at 9:49 PM on Sunday, September 6, 2015 at Springfield Memorial Hospital in Springfield, Illinois.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2015 from 12 PM (NOON) – 1:30 PM in the chapel of Thrasher Family Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life Service will begin at 1:30 PM. Cremation rites will be accorded. Reverend Gary Wachtel will be officiating.

LeeRoy was born on April 2, 1932 in Jasper County, the son of Peter and Bertha (Huffman) Derler. He later married Zelma (Allison) Derler on November 28, 1953 in Sainte Marie, Illinois. She survives.

He was a farmer for many years and an avid junk collector. He enjoyed telling jokes and stories and was well known at auctions. He was always the last one to leave and would buy the scraps that didn't sell at the auctions. He will be sadly missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.

LeeRoy is survived by his wife of 61 years, Zelma Derler, of Dundas, 3 children, Elizabeth Ann Songer, and husband Jeff of West Liberty, Sonya Carol Derler of Harrisburg, and William Lee Derler; brother Ed Derler, and wife Carolyn of Ramsey, Illinois; 4 sisters, Betty Dart, of North Carolina, Judy Bergbower, and husband Gene of Olney, Linda Latimer, of Wilmington, Illinois and Arlene Drown, of Wilmington, Illinois; 2 grandsons, Russell Utley and Cody Derler; 3 great-grandchildren, Haley, Hunter, and Harmony Utley; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Peter and Bertha Derler, infant daughter Margaret Kathleen Derler, sister and brother-in-law Rose and Gene Michl, brother and sister-in-law Frank and Connie Derler.
