Lowell Dean "Screwball" Gerth, age 78
Of rural Dieterich, IL passed away at 1:14 PM – Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham, IL.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM – Sunday, April 7, 2013 at the Blake-Wright Funeral Home in Dieterich, IL with Bro. Carroll Ross officiating. Burial will be in the Scott Cemetery near Winterrowd, IL. Visitation will be held 4:00-7:00 PM – Saturday, April 6, 2013 at the funeral home. The family request that those attending the visitation and funeral to wear jeans in honor of Screwball. Lowell Dean "Screwball" was born on May 17, 1934 in rural Dieterich, IL the son of Leo and Louise (Krueger) Gerth. He married Harvy Lawless on July 3, 1956 in Olney, IL.
Screwball was a farmer and cattleman most of his life. He lived his whole life south of Dieterich within a mile of where he was born. He started working on the pipeline at age 15 and worked all over the country. He liked working in the mountains and swamps best.
Screwball was a lifetime member of the Operating Engineers Local 841 in Terre Haute, IN. He enjoyed going to the sale barn and rodeos.

11 Grandchildren – Erica (Mike) Rettig, Nikki Waddington (Jake Steffes), Robb (Jenn) Waddington, Ben (Sam) McDaniel, Bridget (Aaron) Kaufman, Sabrina (Nick) Hutton, Anthony Steppe, Coleman Gerth (Nikki Jo Meier), Cody (Leslie) Gerth, Cord Gerth and Colby Gerth
Great Grandchildren – Charlie Rettig, Ben McDaniel, Kaleb McDaniel, Clara Kaufman, Dean Kaufman, Brody Gerth and Briar Gerth

Screwball was preceded in death by his parents, brother Bob Gerth and a sister Betty Watt.
