Obituary

Margaret Louise Meyer, 84, of Wheeler, Ill. passed away at 6:15 p.m. Wednesday (April 11, 2018) at Lakeland Rehabilitation and Health Care Center, Effingham, surrounded by family.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM – Monday, April 16, 2018, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in rural Dieterich (Bishop Creek), Ill., with Fr. Bill Rooney, celebrating mass.  Burial will be in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Dieterich, Ill.  Visitation will be held 4:00-7:00 PM – Sunday, April 15, 2018, at the church with a parish wake service at 6:45 PM.  Visitation will also be held 1 hour prior to mass.  In loving memory of Margaret, memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.  Arrangements are under the care of the Meyer Funeral Home in Dieterich, Ill.  The obituary can be viewed and condolences left at www.meyerfh.com .

She was born Nov. 1, 1933, at Stringtown, a daughter of Charles and Helen (Rehkemper) Zuber. She married Francis Donovan Meyer on Dec. 29, 1955, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Stringtown. He preceded her in death on Dec. 10, 2009.

Surviving are her children, Patty (Chris) Rutter, Edwardsville; Frank, Cincinnati; Ellen Meinhart, Effingham; Jane (Mark) Pickering, Bloomington; Marilyn (Rick) Peterson, Appleton, Wis.; Shirley, Chicago; Joe, Wheeler; and Julie (Tim) Ryan, Rochester, Ill.; 12 grandchildren, Tyler (Beth) and Michael (Ashley) Murphy; Kristianne, Andy and Lori Meinhart; Thomas and Caroline Pickering; Nathan, Hannah and Marah Peterson; and Will and Tate Ryan; 3 great-grandchildren, William, Harrison and Isabella Murphy; sister, Catherine Humphries, Springfield; and brother, Gene (Carolyn) Zuber, Dundas; sisters- and brothers-in law, Iris Johnson, Inis (Joe) Probst,  John Meyer, Sara Meyer, Hermina Zuber and Helen Zuber; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; daughter, Cindy Goldstein; and siblings, Marcella Flaminio, Charlene Kistner; and Cyril, Francis, and Paul Zuber.

Mrs. Meyer was a member of St. Isidore Catholic Church, Bishop, and Immaculate Conception Church, Dieterich, where she was a member of the Altar and Rosary Sodality.

She was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, never missing a game, and loved the many dogs that inhabited the family farm over the years. She was a loving mother who cooked thousands, if not tens of thousands, of meals over the years, feeding her family of nine children and husband Francis. She worked hard on the farm, planting a big garden and pitching in with the other chores.
