Obituary

Marilyn Sue Davis, age 71

Of rural Dieterich, IL passed away at 4:30 PM – Monday, November 12, 2012 at Lutheran Care Center in Altamont, IL.

Funeral services celebrating Marilyn's life will be held at 2:00 PM – Saturday, November 17, 2012 at the Cornerstone Christian Church 3600 South Banker Street Effingham, IL with Carroll Ross officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Zion Cemetery south of Elliottstown, IL. Visitation will be held 5:00–8:00 PM – Friday, November 16, 2012 at the Blake-Wright Funeral Home in Dieterich, IL and ½ hour before the service at the church. In loving memory of Marilyn, memorials may be made to help with the adoption of her grandson Crawford Glen Davis. Arrangements are under the care of the Blake-Wright Funeral Home in Dieterich, IL. Marilyn was born on September 29, 1941 in Lucas Township, Effingham County, IL the daughter of Crawford Lowell "Barney" Higgins and Ellen (Boerngen) Higgins. She married James Davis on June 7, 1960 in Dieterich, IL and he survives.
Marilyn was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She retired from the Dieterich school system, where she was a cook for more than 30 years.
Marilyn was a strong and devoted Christian and was a member of the Winterrowd Christian Church. She was a former member of the Elliottstown Church of Christ until it closed in 1994. She was very generous and hard-working – always willing to help, whether it was playing the piano at church or helping others in a time of need.
Marilyn enjoyed cooking for her family every Sunday, gardening, flowers, traveling, bowling, painting, crafts, crocheting and playing the piano.
Marilyn is survived by her loving family:
Husband of 52 years – James Davis of Dieterich, IL
3 Sons – Kevin (Sandy) Davis of Dieterich, IL
Tim (Courtney) Davis of Louisville, IL
Kelly (Loretta) Davis of Dieterich, IL
6 Grandchildren – Jimmy, Melissa and Isaac – children of Kelly & Loretta Davis; Aaron and Eddie – sons of Kevin & Sandy Davis and Crawford Davis – son of Tim & Courtney Davis.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters – Janet Gossman and one in infancy.
