Marilyn Clara (Miller) Fritchley, age 72

Marilyn Clara (Miller) Fritchley, age 72, of Newton, Illinois, passed away at 11:05 AM - Sunday, January 7, 2018, at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital in Tallahassee, Florida.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM – Saturday, January 13, 2018, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Newton, Illinois, with Fr. Dean Probst celebrating mass.  Burial will be in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Newton, Illinois.  Visitation will be held 4:00-7:00 PM – Friday, January 12, 2018, at the church.  There will also be visitation 1 hour before the mass in church.  In loving memory of Marilyn, memorials may be made to St. Thomas School.  Arrangements are under the care of the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois.

Marilyn was born on September 7, 1945, in Effingham, Illinois, the daughter of Roscoe and Adeline (Westendorf) Miller.

Marilyn graduated in 1963, from Newton Community High School and then earned both her Bachelors and Master's degrees in Education from Eastern Illinois University.

Marilyn started her teaching career at St. Thomas School in Newton and retired from Palestine High School in 2013.  After her retirement, Marilyn worked as a tax preparer at H&R Block in Newton.

Marilyn was a faithful member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Newton, Illinois.  She was a member of the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary, Illinois Education Association and the National Education Association.

Marilyn was an avid reader and enjoyed spending quality time with her grandchildren.

Marilyn is survived by:

Mother – Adeline Miller of Newton, Illinois

Children – Cindy (Mike) Griffith of Pittsboro, Indiana and William (Jennifer) Fritchley of Dundas, Illinois

Grandchildren – Emily Griffith, Megan Griffith, Collin Griffith, William Robert Fritchley, Alex Fritchley, Zach Fritchley and Lee Fritchley.

Siblings – Larry (Monica) Miller of Newton, Illinois; Gerald (Marie) Miller of Columbus, Ohio; Shirley (Roger) Woodard of Newton, Illinois; John (Kathy) Miller of Newton, Illinois and Lou (Cheryl) Miller of Pekin, Illinois

Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her father.
