January 1, 1927 – April 1, 2015
Mary Lou Jenkins age 88, of Olney, passed away on Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at Richland Memorial Hospital.
Visitation will be on Monday, April 6, 2015 from 11:30 AM – 1:30 PM in the chapel of Thrasher Family Funeral Home in Olney. Funeral service will follow at 1:30 PM. Reverend Lance Jenkins will be officiating. Burial will be at Dundas Cemetery in Dundas.
Mary Lou was born on January 1, 1927, in Defiance, Ohio, the daughter of Reverend Carey and Della F. (Bullock) Christy. She later married Samuel Jenkins on February 12, 1947 at West Main Congregational Christian Church in Olney. He survives.
She worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) until retirement. She attended Calvary Baptist Church in Olney. She was the pianist and organist at her church. She enjoyed making stuffed white squirrels, quilting, writing music and poems, crocheting, and reading books especially the Bible. She will be sadly missed by her family, friends and all who knew her.
Mary Lou is survived by her husband Samuel Jenkins of Olney; sons Robert Dale Jenkins, and wife Jane of Andover, Kansas, Stephen Joshua Jenkins, and wife Krista, of Wichita, Kansas, Donald Ellis Jenkins, and wife Susan of Andover, Kansas, Paul Stanley Jenkins, and wife Jan of Litchfield, Illinois; daughters Margaret Kathleen Upton of Fort Worth, Texas, Shirley Kay Jenkins, of Olney, Pamela Jean Maximo, and husband Roberto, of Acworth, Georgia, and Janice Renee Gill, and husband Stanley of Bedford, Texas; 15 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren, special family friends Otis and Barbara Chaplin, Paul and Phyllis Ulrich, and caregiver Samantha Blakney.
She is preceded in death by her parents Reverend Carey and Della Christy, 3 brothers, Marion, Robert, and Paul Christy, and sister Dorothy Sparks.
Memorials can be made to Richland County Senior Citizens Center or Master's Hands in memory of Mary Lou Jenkins.
