Mary Ellen Cox, age 98, formerly of Hunt City, Illinois, passed away at 4:30 AM – Thursday, February 2, 2023, at Ridgeview Health and Rehab Center in Oblong, Illinois.
Funeral celebrating Mary Ellen's life will be held at 12:00 PM (Noon), Monday, February 6, 2023, at the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois, with Phil Boyd officiating. Burial will be in the Mound Cemetery north-east of Willow Hill, Illinois. Visitation will be held 2 hours before the service. In loving memory of Mary Ellen, memorials may be made to the Hunt City Congregational Christian Church. The obituary can be viewed, and condolences left at www.meyerfh.com .
Mary Ellen was born on December 3, 1924, in Hunt City, Illinois, the daughter of Theodore O. "Ted" and Agnes Anna (Evermon) Fischer. She married Claude Everett Cox on July 22, 1945, and he preceded her in death on January 21, 1998.
Mary Ellen worked for many years at E.R. Moore Cap & Gown in Newton, Illinois. She took great pride tending to her yard, mowing, gardening, and raising and picking blackberries. She shared her love of sewing with friends and family through the years. Mary Ellen proudly made hundreds of crocheted hangers and dish scrubbers.
Mary Ellen was a faithful member of the Hunt City Congregational Christian Church.

Sisters - Anna (Sam) Britton of Newton, Illinois and Amelia Matheny of Houston, Texas

Son-in-law - Ed Richards of Oblong, Illinois
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Barbara Richards, sons Donald Cox and Ronald Cox, brothers Leon (Wilma) Fischer and John William Fischer.
