Mary I. Scherer, age 91, of Olney, passed away at 9:28 AM on Friday, April 15, 2016 at Richland Memorial Hospital in Olney.

Visitation will be Monday, April 18, 2016 from 10-11 AM in the chapel of Thrasher Family Funeral Home. Funeral will follow at 11 AM in the chapel of Thrasher Family Funeral Home. Burial will be at Haven Hill Cemetery in Olney. Pastor Tim Loomis will be officiating.

Mary was born on April 1, 1925 in Olney, the daughter of Edward James and Iris (Lincoln) McGookey. She later married Kenneth Perkins Scherer on July 24, 1950 in Carbondale. He preceded her in death on December 4, 2015.

She worked as a book keeper for many years. She was a member of Mt. Gilead Church in Olney. She was also a Girl Scout and 4-H leader, was a member of a square dancing club, Ladies Auxiliary at Mt. Gilead Church, and worked at the Home Extension office in Olney. She will be sadly missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her.

Mary is survived by 2 daughters, Barbara Bauman and husband Michael of Olney and Judith Scott and husband Donovan of Flora; 3 grandchildren Ben Bauman, Joshua Scott and Heather Scott; and 8 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband Kenneth Perkins Scherer, parents Edward and Iris McGookey, brother Donnie McGookey and infant brother.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to Mt. Gilead Church Youth Group in memory of Mary I. Scherer.
