Obituary

Max Gary Massey, Sr. age 81 of Kinmundy, IL and formerly of Newton, IL passed away at 11:58 AM - Monday, April 28, 2014 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon, Illinois.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM – Saturday, May 3, 2014 at the Meyer Funeral Home (formerly Blake-Buchanan Funeral Home) in Newton, IL with Josh Conley officiating. Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Newton, IL with full military rites. Visitation will be held 6:00-8:00 PM – Friday, May 2, 2014 at the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, IL. Max was born on January 28, 1933 in Newton, IL the son of Eldon Gene and Josephine (Rauch) Massey. He married Joan Gaede on June 27, 1951 in Newton, IL and she preceded him in death on June 11, 1991. He later married Lulu Belle (Craig) Hunter on July 10, 1993 in Newton, IL and she survives. Max was a graduate of Newton Community High School where he played football for the Newton Eagles. Max owned and operated Ambraw Valley Eggs in Newton, IL and owned Old Mill Inn in Newton, IL with his son Max Massey, Jr. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Max was a member of St Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Newton, American Legion, VFW and the Moose Lodge. He enjoyed dancing and going to auctions.
