Meredith Lee Yager, age 85, of Newton, Illinois, passed away at 5:55 PM - Sunday, December 31, 2017, at Newton Care Center in Newton, Illinois.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM – Friday, January 5, 2018, at the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois, with Rev. Steve Willis officiating.  Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Newton, Illinois.  Visitation will be held 5:00-7:00 PM – Thursday, January 4, 2018, at the funeral home.  In loving memory of Meredith, memorials may be made to the Jasper County Cancer Fund PO Box 333 Newton, Illinois 62448.  The obituary can be viewed and condolences left at www.meyerfh.com.

Meredith was born on August 27, 1932, in Ste. Marie Township, Jasper County, Illinois, the son of Peter M. and Avis G. (Boehl) Yager.
He married Joy Patterson on December 22, 1951, in Newton, Illinois, and she preceded him in death on May 25, 2011.

Meredith retired from Newton Broom Factory after 50 years of service.  He was an avid gardener, enjoyed dancing, playing cards and taking care of his yard.

Children – Terry (Linda) Yager of Newton, Illinois and Vicky Yager of Newton, Illinois Grandchildren – Jody (Mike) Dhom, Josh (Amy) Yager, Jesse (Kim) Yager all of Newton, Illinois
Great Grandchildren – Ross Dhom, Cory Dhom, Hannah Loy, Elaina Yager, Hunter Yager and Mika Yager
Brother – Richard (Cheryl) Yager of Newton, Illinois

Many nieces and nephews also survive.

Meredith was preceded in death by his parents and wife.
