Michael Ray VanMatre, 64 of Olney, passed away at 10:53 PM on Monday, January 24, 2022 at Carle Richland Memorial Hospital in Olney.

Celebration of Life Service will be at a later date. Cremation rites will be accorded.

Michael was born on May 19, 1957 in Olney the son of Ray and Jane (Slover) VanMatre.

He was in the United States Army National Guard. He worked in the oil field for many years. He was a member of the American Legion in Olney. He enjoyed woodworking and making shelves for his grandchildren by hand. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, fishing, hunting or soaking up the sun.

Michael is survived by his companion Mary Harrolle of Olney; parents Ray and Jane VanMatre of Parkersburg; son Michael Collins of Fairfield; 2 daughters Michele VanMatre of Flora and Christina VanMatre of Olney; 2 brothers Alan VanMatre (Connie) of Parkersburg and Robert VanMatre (Karen) of Grayville, 2 sisters Susan VanMatre of Olney and Nancy Miller (Jason) of West Salem; sister-in-law Donna VanMatre; grandchildren Robert Williams Jr. (Megan), Austin Marks, Ashlyn Persinger, Dakota Collins, Jackie Graham, and Alexander Graham; 2 great-grandchildren Loretta Williams and Zylis Williams; and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Luther and Alice VanMatre, maternal grandparents Lawrence and Mildred Slover, brother Phillip VanMatre and 2 nieces Lisa VanMatre and Devan VanMatre.
