Opal F. Schafer, age 94
Of Newton, Illinois passed away at 9:37 AM – Wednesday, January 14, 2015
at Lakeland Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Effingham, Illinois.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM – January 17, 2015 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Newton, Illinois with Fr. Al Kemme celebrating mass. Burial will be in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Newton, Illinois. Visitation will be held 5:00-7:00 PM – Friday, January 16, 2015 at the church and 1 hour before the mass. In loving memory of Opal, memorials may be made to St. Thomas School or Church. Arrangements are under the care of the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois.
Opal was born on March 15, 1920 in Dundas, Illinois the daughter of Willard and Bessie (Hartleroad) Baker. She married Merl J. Schafer on September 3, 1940 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Newton, Illinois and he preceded her in death on May 20, 1997.
Opal was a homemaker, farmer's wife and a loving mother. She was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Newton and the Altar Society. She enjoyed sewing, gardening and reading.

Opal was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son Donnie Schafer; brother Wayne Baker and sister Lucille Elkins.
