Orville Edward "Archie" Schmidt, age 80
of Newton, Illinois passed away at 8:15 PM – Friday, September 18, 2015 at Helia Health Care Center in Olney, Illinois.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM – Saturday, September 26, 2015 at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Ste. Marie, Illinois. Visitation will be from 9:00-10:30 AM at the church. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM – Saturday, September 26, 2015 at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Newton, Illinois. Arrangements are under the care of the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois.
Orville Edward better known as "Archie" was born on March 10, 1935 in Jasper County, Illinois the son of Raymond and Laura (Frichtl) Schmidt. He married Florence Kocher on April 10, 1958 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Stringtown, Illinois and she survives. Archie served in the United States Army from 1958 to 1960 with 18 months in the Missile Battalion in Germany. He farmed for several years and retired from Roadmaster in Olney after 24 years of service. Archie was a member of St. Mary of Assumption Catholic Church in Ste. Marie and Knights of Columbus. He loved flowers and planting a garden especially his sweet corn patch which he shared with his family and neighbors. He liked to do woodworking and re-worked the St. Mary's Altar. He enjoyed fishing and hunting with his friends and sons. Archie was proud that he raised 5 children to be healthy and successful. Archie is survived by Wife of 57 years – Florence Schmidt of Newton, Illinois Children – David (Beth) Schmidt of Effingham, Illinois; Gary (Cathy) Schmidt of Newton, Illinois; Edward (Rosa) Schmidt of Wheeler, Illinois; Connie (Devin) Haynes of Newton, Illinois and Linda (Brian) Schreacke of Quincy, Illinois. Grandchildren – Jeremy, Leslie and Kelsey Haynes; Rochelle Repking; C.J., Brianna, Nathan, Caitlyn and Toby Schmidt; Jake, Gracie and Abby Schreacke. Great Grandchildren – Madelyn and Mackenzie Repking and a great grandson due in November Sister – Rowena Wagy Sister-in-law – Alfonsina Schmidt Brother and Sister-in-Law – Jerome (Jeannette) Kocher
Archie was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Ralph and Delbert Schmidt; sister Beatrice Weatherford; brother-in-laws Victor Wagy and Jack Weatherford and a sister-in-law Norma Jean Schmidt.
