Phoebe Ann Ping, age 99
Phoebe Ann Ping, of Newton, Illinois, quietly slipped from this life into the arms of Jesus, on Friday, October 14, 2016, at Willowbrook Memory Care Center in Effingham, Illinois surrounded by family.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM – Friday, October 21, 2016, at the Hunt City Congregational Christian Church in Hunt City, Illinois, with Bro. Phil Boyd and Bro. Randy Nave officiating. Burial will be in the Brockville Cemetery in rural Newton, Illinois. Visitation will be held 5:00-7:00 PM – Thursday, October 20, 2016, at the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois, and ½ hour before the services at the church. In loving memory of Phoebe, memorials may be made to the Hunt City Congregational Christian Church or to the Jasper County Cancer Fund PO Box 333 Newton, Illinois 62448.
Phoebe Ann was born on October 13, 1917, the daughter of John R. and Sarah Alta (Terrell) Baker, on a farm in rural Yale, Illinois. She married Victor O. Ping on Dec. 25, 1935, and they celebrated their 61 st anniversary before Victor's death in 1997. They had 5 children: Margaret, Kenneth, Jerry, Janet and Myrna.
Phoebe was a homemaker, Sunday school teacher and deaconess in her church, and factory worker. She retired from Caterpillar Tractor in Montgomery, Illinois, in 1974, when she and Victor moved back to Jasper County from Aurora, Illinois. She enjoyed taking care of her garden, doing crafts of all kinds, solving puzzles, playing cards with her grandchildren, and bowling on a league. She was a member of the Hunt City Congregational Christian Church in Hunt City, Illinois.
Phobe is survived by her children - Margaret Manning of rural Newton, Illinois, Kenneth (Barbara) Ping of Tamaroa, Illinois, Janet (Quincy) Vanderhoof of Newton, Illinois, and Myrna Jackson of rural Newton, Illinois. 18 grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren and 9 great great grandchildren.
Phoebe was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Jerry Ping, 2 sons-in-law Ray Manning and Jimmy Jackson, 2 daughters-in-law Shirley Ping and Sharon Ping, granddaughter Debra Manning, several great-grandchildren and 11 siblings.
