Phyllis Jean Bixler, age 95

Phyllis Jean Bixler, age 95, of Newton, Illinois, passed away at 5:30 AM on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at Stonebridge Memory Care in Effingham, Illinois.

Private family services will be held with burial in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Newton, Illinois. Arrangements are under the care of the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois. The obituary can be viewed and condolences left at www.meyerfh.com.

Phyllis was born on May 20, 1931, in Oblong, Illinois, the daughter of Mayo and Ester (Hudson) Dart. She graduated from Oblong High School with the Class of 1948. She married Fay Gordon Bixler on December 17, 1950, at First Baptist Church in Oblong, Illinois. Fay preceded her in death on March 9, 2001.

Phyllis was a homemaker and a loving wife and mother. She was a member of the Central Christian Church in Newton.

Son – Dan Bixler of Newton, Illinois

Siblings – Rosemary Wolfe of Decatur, Alabama; Kent (Irene) Dart of Effingham, Illinois; Roberta Robinson of Lecanto, Florida; and Howard Dart of Independence, Missouri

Several nieces and nephews also survive

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Cynthia Ann Bixler, siblings Arlene (husband Clell) Keller, Lucille (husband Kenneth) Hayden, and Herbert (Betty) Dart; father-in-law and mother-in-law Albert Bixler and Mary Bixler.
