Ralph Eugene "Gene" Murphy, age 79

April 29, 1941 – February 10, 2021

Ralph Eugene Murphy, age 79, of Newton, Illinois, passed away at 3:15 PM – Wednesday, February 10, 2021, at his home surrounded by his family.

Private family services will be held.   Arrangements are under the care of the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois.

Ralph Eugene better known as "Gene" was born on April 29, 1941, in Edgewood, Illinois, the son of Pearl C. and Loretta Grace (Knowles) Murphy.  He married Gertrude Zuber on July 28, 1994, at Newton, Illinois and she survives.

Gene had worked as a truck driver, taxi driver and handyman.  For several years he delivered the Olney, Decatur and Effingham newspapers.

Gene is survived by-

Wife of 26 years - Gertrude Murphy of Newton, Illinois

Daughters – Carolyn (husband Eric) Wilson of Nashville, Tennessee and Tina Murphy Holtz

Grandchildren – Cassie Wilson, Jackie Wilson and 2 other grandchildren

Great Grandchildren – Kai Hawn and Remi Craps

Brother – Stanley Murphy of Eugene, Oregon

Gene was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Dewayne Murphy, James Murphy, Raymond Murphy and Delbert Murphy; sister Rose Murphy and father-in-law and mother-in-law Frank and Margaret Zuber.
