Raymond Eugene "Jack" Hayes 93 of Olney Illinois passed away on Monday,
November 25, 2024, at 9:00 PM at his home. Graveside service will be held on
Monday, December 2, 2024, at Cresthaven Memorial Park in Claremont, Illinois
at 1:00 PM with a visitation starting at 12:30 PM
Born October 13, 1931, to Raymond T and Esther Hayes in Sumner Illinois. He was
married to his first wife Orthella Mae Bellinger until her passing in 1981 with whom he
had two sons, Jeff and Dale. Jack married his second wife Patricia Harrison until her
passing in 2023.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond T and Esther Hayes, his first wife
Orthella Hayes and his second wife Patricia Hayes, two brothers, Kenny and Jim Hayes
and three sisters, Deloris Cummins, Thelma Piper, and Evelyn Ledbetter.
Jack held many jobs throughout his lifetime. He was a farmer, ran a grocery store and
butcher shop, worked at a hardware store, delivered automotive parts, and drove school
bus before starting his own repair shop in Calhoun. He later purchased and operated an
automotive parts store and moved to West Salem until the time he retired. He continued
working after retirement scrapping metal up until the time he moved to Olney.
Jack lived a simple life. He never wanted to bother anyone for anything. He was always
ready to help someone out that was in need. He loved spending time with his family,
especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed dancing and playing cards with friends and
family and listening to the oldies on the radio.
He is survived by his two sons, Jeff (Vicki) Hayes of Herrin, Dale Hayes of Grayville,
Daughter-In-Law Jennifer Hayes of West Salem, Stepsons Les (Tammy) Harrison of
Olney, Gerald (Beverly) Harrison of Olney, Leroy Harrison of Olney, David (Candace)
Harrison of Dundas, Stepdaughters Debbie Henman of Alma, Pam (Matthew) Craig of
Dundas, Carolyn (Joe) Holloway of Flora, Two brothers, Mike (Shiela) Hayes of Sumner
and Bob (Dee) Hayes of Bridgeport and two sisters, Ellen (Chuck) Mortenson of
Midwest, Wyoming and Kathy Slichenmyer of Olney, Grandsons Zack (Kourtney) Hayes
of Chandler, Zane Hayes of Evansville, Great Granddaughter Hazel Hayes, 21 Step
Grandchildren, 37 Great Grandchildren, 10 Step Great-Great Grandchildren, along with
numerous nephews and nieces.
