Ronald "RJ" Jones, age 72

November 12, 1949– August 21, 2022

Ronald Jones, age 72, of Greenup, Illinois, passed away at 4:57 AM – Sunday, August 21, 2022, at his home with his family by his side.

Visitation will be held from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Thursday, August 25, 2022, at the Meyer Funeral Home – Bishop Chapel in Greenup, Illinois.  A celebration of life will follow visitation at the Greenup VFW.

Burial will be held at 10:30 AM – Friday, August 26, 2022 in the Bell Cemetery near Greenup, Illinois, with full military rites by the Cumberland County Veteran Association.  In loving memory of Ron, memorials may be made to the Cumberland County Veterans Association, or the Coles County Animal Shelter.  Arrangements are under the Meyer Funeral Home- Bishop Chapel in Greenup, Illinois.  The obituary can be viewed and condolences left at www.meyerfh.com.

Ronald was born on November 12, 1949 in Mattoon, Illinois, the son Jean (Adkins) Jones.

He graduated from Cumberland High School.

Ron AKA "Cherry", proudly joined the United States Army directly out of High School.  He was a paratrooper with the "Screaming Eagles" Delta Company 2 ^nd Battalion 1 ^st of the 501 ^st .  Upon returning he was with the 82 ^nd Airborn. Ron later attended Lake Land College receiving a degree in welding.  He worked at Lakeland College as the grounds keeper until his retirement.

Ron enjoyed his Harley Davidson Motorcycles, traveling and gardening.

Sons – Kasey Jones of Greenup, Illinois

Korey Jones of Galveston, Texas

Faithful Friend - dog Rosie

Siblings – Don "Bucky" (Sharon) Jones, David (Melissa) Jones and Sheila Parkhouse

Ron is preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers Gary Jones and Frank Jones and nephew Jeremiah Jones.
