Ronnie Gene Diel, age 68

Ronnie Gene Diel, age 68, of Gila, Illinois, passed away at 1:30 PM – Thursday, March 14, 2024, at his home.

Funeral services celebrating Ron's life will be held at 10:00 AM – Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois, with Ray Diel officiating.  The burial will be in the Island Creek Cemetery southeast of Montrose, Illinois.  Visitation will be held 4:00 to 7:00 PM – Monday, March 18, 2024, at the funeral home.  In loving memory of Ron, memorials may be made to the Newton Community High School Ag Construction Class.  The obituary can be viewed, and condolences left www.meyerfh.com.

Ron was born on December 28, 1955, in Effingham, Illinois, the son of John and Fern (Koontz) Diel. He graduated from Newton Community High School with the Class of 1974.  He married Marla Thompson on July 25, 1988.

Ron was a lifelong resident of the Gila community and a carpenter for 45 years. He was an honest,

hardworking man who loved his family and his dogs.  He built many homes in the surrounding area. Ron

loved being outside and never met a stranger.

Ron is survived by his wife Marla of 35 years, son Jacob Willis Diel (Keirsten) and daughter Kaitlin Jo Stremme (Josh), siblings John (Gina) Diel, Paula Diel, Kathy (Ron) Wellman, grandson Noah Stremme, several nieces and one nephew.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents.
