IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Russell E.
Floyd
November 21, 1946 – November 22, 2023
Russell E. Floyd, age 77, of Mattoon, Illinois, passed away on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, at Sarah Bush Lincoln Hospital in Mattoon, Illinois.
A private graveside service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the care of the Meyer Funeral Home - Bishop Chapel in Greenup, Illinois. The obituary can be viewed, and condolences left at www.meyerfh.com.
Russell was born on November 21, 1946, the son of Russell and Irene (Grissom) Floyd, in Terre Haute, Indiana. He married the love of his life, Linda Cox, on June 5, 1965, and she preceded him in death on January 5, 2002.
Russell spent his younger years building houses and working at Peoples Gas in Joliet, Illinois until his retirement in 1996. He quickly found a love for restoring antique furniture and started his small business, Floyd's Antiques. In his later years, he enjoyed gardening, fishing, and mastering his recipes for Chicago-style deep dish pizza, pies, and more.
Russell was a spiritual man and looked forward to church every Sunday. Through his involvement with several churches, he supported and participated in many missions and dedicated most of his time to helping others.
Russell was a great friend to many. His wit, humor, charm, movie and tv references, and knack for storytelling will be missed.
Russell is survived by his son, Jonathon Floyd and his wife Janene Issert of Wilmington, Illinois; daughter, Brittany Floyd of Champaign, Illinois; sister, Carolyn (Bill) Boyd; brothers David (Irene) Floyd, Kenneth (Dana) Floyd, Mike (Debra) Floyd; and grandchildren Jacob, Benjamin, and Caleb Floyd.
Russell is preceded in death by his parents, wife Linda, daughter Rhonda Floyd, brother John Floyd, sister Joan Connelly and his very best friend, Wayne Richie, who passed away in 2019.
The family would like to thank the nurses and medical staff at Sarah Bush Lincoln Hospital for their care.
