Russell Max Shull, Sr. age 90
of Greenup, Illinois passed away at 3:45 PM – Tuesday, December 15, 2015, at Heartland Manor Nursing Home in Casey, Illinois.
Private family services will be held with burial in the Harmony Cemetery north of Greenup, Illinois with full military rites by the Cumberland County Veterans Association. In loving memory of Max, memorials may be made to the Cumberland County Veterans Association P.O. Box 647 Greenup, Illinois 62428 or Lincolnland Hospice 1004 Health Center Drive Mattoon, Illinois 61938. Arrangements are in the care of the Meyer Funeral Home (Formerly Bishop Funeral Home) in Greenup, Illinois.
Russell Max was born on March 1, 1925, in Cumberland County, Illinois, the son of Alonzo and Amy (Hutson) Shull. He joined the United States Navy during WW II at the age 17. He severed on several different ships in the Pacific theater until the end of the war. Upon returning home in 1946, he met and married Barbara "Bobbie" Barger on June 8, 1946, and she preceded him in death on November 8, 2009.
Max and Bobbie established Shull's plumbing and heating in the late 1950's. When Max retired they spent the winters in Florida and then would farm during the summer after returning home to rural Greenup.
Max was a 50 year member of the Greenup Masonic Lodge #125 A.M and F.M.; Greenup VFW and the Cumberland County Sportsmans Club. He believed in our Lord and Savior and studied his Bible religiously.

Max was preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter Rebecca Jane Brown on November 25, 2004; brothers Ray, Basil, Charlie and Don; sisters Angela Shull, Ruby Newbanks and Alta Matteson.
