Obituary
Ruth L. Healy, age 103
Of Greenup, Illinois and former resident of Hidalgo, Illinois passed away at 11:30 PM –
Thursday, December 4, 2014 at Cumberland Rehab and Health Care Center in
Greenup, Illinois.
Private family services will be held with burial in the Swick Cemetery
in rural Hidalgo, Illinois.
Arrangements are under the care of the Meyer Funeral Home (formerly Bishop Funeral Home) in Greenup, Illinois.
Ruth Lenora (Combs) Healy was born on February 20, 1911 near Hidalgo, Illinois the second child of Clarence and Mamie (Pippen) Combs.
She was educated in Illinois schools and went to Shriner's hospital in Chicago for sick and crippled children for 1 year.
After being hospitalized she was placed in a Jewish family home as a nanny in 1928. The family moved to New York City in October 1929 taking her with them.
Ruth met Michael "Mick" Healy in New York City on December 1932 and they were married on August 22, 1933. They lived in New York City until June 1942 when they bought a home and gasoline station in Hidalgo, Illinois. After moving back to Illinois a daughter was born to this union. Ruth and Mick welcomed the birth of their daughter Eileen Michele Healy on September 4, 1944. Ruth and Mick lived in Hidalgo until December 15, 1971 when a tornado tore up their home and filling station. After the tornado they moved to Greenup, Illinois and purchased a home on December 23, 1971. Mick preceded Ruth in death on March 21, 1987.
Ruth was baptized and joined the Presbyterian Church in New York City in March 1935
at the age of 24.
Ruth is survived by:
Daughter – Eileen M. Healy of Decatur, Illinois
11 nieces and nephews and a sister-in-law
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; stepmother Eva Whitt Combs; husband Michael "Mick" Healy;3 sisters Alice Combs Whitt, Wilma Combs Carter and Jona Combs Ingram and
a brother Jim Combs.
