Sean Patrick O'Leary, age 58

October 3, 1965 – August 24, 2024

Sean Patrick O'Leary, age 58, of Newton, Illinois, passed away at 3:45 PM – Saturday, August 24, 2024, at Flora Rehab and Health Care Center in Flora, Illinois.

Sean was born on October 3, 1965, in Las Vegas, Nevada, the son of John Lester "Les" and Leola Jane (Rubin) O'Leary.  The second in the O'Learys' set of "Irish twins" to arrive, Sean was welcomed home by his sister, Seaneen Patricia, twenty-two days before her first birthday.

Sean attended St. Anne's grade school & graduated from Clark High School in Las Vegas.  He worked at Harrah's Casino for several years in soft count (removing and counting paper currency from casino gaming machines), and later in facility maintenance.

Sean had a friendly, easy going nature, a fast smile & always seemed happy with life. If his attitude & laughter weren't enough to show off his confident, playful personality, the bounce in his step, mixed with a bit of strut, made it unmistakable when he walked! He was quick-witted, extremely proud of his Irish heritage, and rarely turned down a cold beer with friends!

He enjoyed entertaining his nieces & nephews, game nights at his sister's home, boating at Lake Mead, rock concerts, customizing cars, and, he was even known to bungee jump!

Sean started working at BP Gas Station / Circle K shortly after moving to Newton in 2001.  He loved his job, his coworkers, and coaxing smiles or laughter from everyone he spoke to.  He hadn't met everyone, but no one was a stranger!

A pot of gold is every leprechaun's pride, but, even with rainbows, this Irishman's heart of gold was too huge to hide.

Sean is survived by:

Daughter – Kearstin (Hector) Fernadez of Clearfield, Utah

Sister – Seaneen O'Leary of Las Vegas, Nevada

Nieces and Nephews - Gregory Morgan, Christopher Morgan, Breanna DeFoor,

Tyler DeFoor, and Cassie DeFoor of Las Vegas, Nevada

Nicholas Newkirk, Megan Nester, and Morgan Nester of Newton, Illinois

Sean was preceded in death by his parents.
