Mrs. Serena Mary Kaufmann, age 101
Of Ste. Marie, IL passed away at 1:45 PM - Tuesday, October 4, 2011 at Burgin Manor in Olney, IL.
Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM – Friday, October 7, 2011 at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Ste. Marie, IL with Fr. Al Kemme celebrating mass. Burial will be in the St. Mary's Cemetery in Ste. Marie, IL. Visitation will be held 5:00 – 7:00 PM – Thursday, October 6, 2011 at the church and 1 hour before the mass. In loving memory of Serena, memorials may be made to the St. Mary's Church. Arrangements are under the care of the Blake-Buchanan Funeral Home in Newton, IL.
Serena was born January 9, 1910 in Jasper County, Illinois the daughter of Leo and Ida (Rennier) Kocher.
She married Thomas Paul Kaufmann on April 5, 1932 and he preceded her in death on May 13, 1975.
Serena was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church and enjoyed quilting with the St. Mary's Quilters and spending time with her family.
Serena is survived by her children-
Patricia (Gilbert) Volk of Ingraham, IL; Armella "Milly" Zuber of Olney, IL; Leonard (Alice) Kaufmann of Effingham, IL; Phyllis Kaufmann (Jon Edwards) of Austin, TX; Maynard (Elfrieda) Kaufmann of Newton, IL; Mary (Paul) Gurski of Boca Raton, FL.
Brothers- Ralph (Margaret) Kocher of Olney, IL; Herman (Betty) Kocher of Olney, IL.
Sisters- Mildred Drewes of Olney IL.
35 Grandchildren 73 Great Grandchildren and 11 Great-Great Grandchildren also survive.
Serena was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Elmer Thomas Kaufmann, grandsons Charles Volk and John Volk, a great grandson, brothers- Elmer Kocher, Harold Kocher and Myron Kocher; sisters- Helen Rennier, Sister Henrietta (Elizabeth) Kocher, Sister Hildegarde (Theresa) Kocher and Mary Ginder.
