Shirley Ann Acklin, age 78

of Wheeler, IL passed away at 4:10 AM – Sunday, May 18, 2014 at Lakeland Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Effingham, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM – Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at the Meyer Funeral Home (formerly Blake-Buchanan Funeral Home) in Newton, IL with Nate Hagen officiating. Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Newton, IL. Visitation will be held 6:00-8:00 PM – Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at the funeral home. Shirley was born on September 22, 1935 in Effingham, IL the daughter of Walter Frederick Herman Woidt and Jenny (Adams) Woidt. She married Gerald Acklin on July 31, 1954 and he preceded her in death November 6, 2008. Shirley was a homemaker and a farmer's wife and was a member of the Latona Church of Christ. Shirley and her husband Gerald raised registered Hereford cattle and she was a former member of the Illinois Hereford Association and she enjoyed gardening. Shirley is survived by: 3 Children – Steve (Crystal) Acklin of Wheeler, IL Sharon Helregel (fiancé Brad Addis) of Newton, IL Sherrill (Terry) Conrad of Clarksville, TN 8 Grandchildren – Heather Schnepp of Clarksville, TN, Colton Helregel of Noble, IL, Matthew Helregel of Newton, IL, Skyler Acklin of Wheeler, IL, Sara Acklin of Wheeler, IL, Nicholas Fewkes of Dieterich, IL, Jamee Le?n of Chattanooga, TN and Chris Stanford of Olney, IL 6 Great Grandchildren

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother Bob Woidt, sister Lois Trombley and a son-in-law Dan Helregel.
