Shirley Jean Gehlhausen, age 90

Shirley Jean Gehlhausen, age 90, of Olney, Illinois, passed away on Monday, June 29, 2026, at Richland Care and Rehab in Olney, Illinois.

A service celebrating Shirley’s life will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at the Meyer Funeral Home in Olney, Illinois. The burial will follow in the Noble Prairie Cemetery in Noble, Illinois. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 9:00 AM until service time. Shirley was born on May 22, 1936, the daughter of Roy and Jewell (Houser) Moore.  She married James Gehlhausen on August 29, 1985, in Noble, Illinois. James preceded her in death on February 25, 2004.

Shirley was the Noble Village City Clerk starting in June of 1974 and retiring in May of 2005.

Shirley was a member of the Christian Church of Noble. She enjoyed golfing with her friends, playing cards, cooking and watching wildlife.

Shirley is survived by: daughter, Melissa (Jim) Gates of Olney, Illinois; sons, Jeff (Rhonda) Cox of Clay City, Illinois; and Michael Cox of Noble, Illinois; nine grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents Roy and Jewell Moore, husband James Gehlhausen, brother Marshall Moore and sister-in-law Sandy Moore.
