Stephen Francis Ochs, age 73

March 11, 1951 – August 23, 2024

Stephen Francis Ochs, age 73, of Newton, Illinois, passed away at 12:54 PM – Friday, August 23, 2024, at Deaconess Midtown Hospital in Evansville, Indiana.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM – Thursday, August 29, 2024, at St Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Sainte Marie, Illinois.  The burial will be in the St Mary's Cemetery in Sainte Marie, Illinois.  A visitation for family and friends will be held 5:00 to 7:00 PM – Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois.  In loving memory of Stephen, memorials may be made to Saint Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church.  The obituary can be viewed, and condolences left www.meyerfh.com.

Stephen was born on March 11, 1951, in Olney, Illinois, the son of Wilmer "Hoover" and Betty J. (Piercefield) Ochs.  He graduated from Newton Community High School with the Class of 1969.  Following high school, Stephen attended Eastern Illinois University in Charleston and graduated with a bachelor's degree in education.

Stephen taught school for several years in Cumberland and Jasper County School Districts.  He also was a lifelong farmer.  Stephen was a lifelong member of Saint Marie of the Assumption Catholic Church.

Stephen was an avid Fighting Illini and St Louis Cardinals fan.

Sisters – Marie Beal of Olney, Illinois and Sheila (Tom) Short of Lawrenceville, Illinois

Stephen was preceded in death by his parents, and sisters Katherine Ochs and Melvarose Ochs.
