Steven Harrison Gosnell age 65
of Newton, IL passed away at 6:00 AM – Saturday, May 24, 2014 at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM – Saturday, May 31, 2014 at the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, IL. Burial will be in the Old St. Peter Cemetery in rural Newton, IL with full military rites by the Jasper Post #20 American Legion. Visitation will be held 6:00-8:00 PM – Friday, May 30, 2014 at the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, IL. In loving memory of Steven, memorials may be made to the Jasper County Cancer Fund. Steven was born on June 14, 1948 at the family home in Rose Hill, Illinois the son of Calvin and Avanell (Burton) Gosnell. He married Susan K. Bunton on June 16, 1979 and she survives. Steven retired from FS after many years of service as a truck driver. After his retirement he worked with Tony Griffith at Broadway Express in Effingham for several years as truck driver. Steven served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and was stationed in Germany. Steven enjoyed being around his grandchildren and children. He loved to pick blackberries, grow a large garden and watch hummingbirds that came to the feeders he had on his front porch. Steven is survived by: Wife of 34 years – Susan K. Gosnell of Newton, IL and Chad (Fiancé Mandy Aldridge) Bunton of Newton, IL Brothers – Terry (wife Dian) Gosnell of Tampa, FL; Gerry Gosnell of Baylis, IL and Doug Gosnell of Broken Arrow, OK Sister – Jana Gilmore of Rose Hill, IL Grandchildren – Kashannda (husband Scott) Hamilton of Palestine, IL; Kierstin Gosnell of Hidalgo, IL; Breanna Gosnell, Trenton Gosnell and Trevon Gosnell of Casey, IL; Kailey Bunton of Waverly, IL; Ayvin Bunton, Nadia Bunton and Hannah Aldridge of Newton, IL Great Grandchildren – Jaiden Gosnell of Effingham, IL and Alieciannah Hamilton of Palestine, IL and several nieces and nephews Loyal pet dog – Stinky Steven was preceded in death by his father, brother Michael Gosnell and sister Janelle Walker.
