Mr. Urban J. Kocher, age 99
Of rural Ste. Marie, IL passed away at 4:58 PM – Saturday, February 11, 2012 at Newton Rest Haven in Newton, IL.
Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM – Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at the St Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Ste Marie, IL with Fr. Al Kemme celebrating mass. Burial will be in the St. Mary's Cemetery in Ste. Marie, IL. Visitation will be held 5:00-7:00 PM – Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at the church and ½ hour before the mass. In loving memory of Urban, memorials may be made to the St. Mary's Church or Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care of the Blake-Buchanan Funeral Home in Newton, IL. Urban was born on September 8, 1912 in Ste. Marie, IL the son of Daniel and Ella (Kessler) Kocher. He married L. Delores Huber on October 15, 1946 in Ste. Marie and she preceded him in death on March 5, 2009.
Urban was a dedicated farmer, loving husband and father. He enjoyed playing the piano and guitar and singing. He was a member of the St. Mary of the Assumption Church and the Knights of Columbus Council #1704. He sang in the church choir and served on the Ste. Marie School Board and Ste. Marie Drainage and Levee District.
Urban is survived by 2 Daughters Linda Kocher of rural Ste. Marie, IL and Janet (husband Jerome) Kistner of Newton, IL. 2 grandsons Michael (wife Jenny) Kistner and James(fiancée Kaila Shedelbower) Kistner both of Newton, IL and a great grandson Caleb Kistner. A brother Theodore (wife Martha) Kocher of Newton, IL and a sister Viola Keller of Ste. Marie, IL also survive.
Urban was preceded in death by his parents, wife, 2 brothers Elmer and Sylvan Kocher; 3 sisters Florence Barry, Delphine Kocher and Helen Frichtl.
