Velma P. Grady, age 94

of Effingham, IL passed away at 10:50 PM - Thursday, April 24, 2014 at the Villas of Holly Brook in Effingham, IL.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM - Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at St Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Effingham, IL with Fr. Albert Allen celebrating mass. Burial will be in the St. Anthony's Cemetery in Effingham, IL. Visitation will be held 4:00-7:00 PM – Monday, April 28, 2014 at the church. Memorials may be made to the Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Dieterich or St. Anthony's Cemetery in Effingham or to Children's Hospital in loving memory of Lucas Schuette and Velma Grady. Velma was born on March 27, 1920 in Ingraham, IL the daughter of Curtis and Zula (Wilkens) Lewis. She married Ernest LeBel on April 18, 1938 and he preceded her in death on January 19, 1980. She later married Leonard Grady in December 1980 and he preceded her in death on August 21, 1999. Velma owned operated a beauty shop and worked at E.R. Moore Cap and Gown in Newton for many years. She was a member of St Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Effingham. She enjoyed sewing, piecing quilts, playing cards, doing puzzles and reading. She made hundreds of lap quilts over the years for head start programs.

Carroll (Elinor) Lewis of Effingham, IL Sisters – Lois Galloway of Effingham, IL and Ina Brandt of Clay City, IL Grandchildren – Krysten Junker, Jaclyn Jones, Bradley Day, Todd Esker, Christine Smith, Beth Lewis and Ted Esker Step Grandchildren – Ed Slota, Jr, Laura Slota and Rick Purvey Great Grandchildren – Kylie Lewis, Madie Smith, Chloe Lewis, Sydney Esker, Ethan Esker, William Lewis, Haylee Jones, Max Schuette and Lilee Jones Step Great Grandchildren - Brendan Slota and Emily Slota

Velma was preceded in death by her parents, 2 husbands, great grandson Lucas Schuette and a brother Elvin Lewis.
