Vernon "Junior" Johnson, age 83 of Olney, passed away at 5:05 AM on Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at Burgin Manor in Olney.

Funeral service will be held at 2 PM Saturday, July 23 in the chapel of Thrasher Family Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 1-2 PM. Burial will be at Ebenezer Cemetery. Pastor Tommy Vaught and Richland County Veteran's Association will be officiating.

Junior was born July 25, 1932 in West Salem, the son of Vernon A. and Lucille (Brock) Johnson. He later married Helen E. Ross on April 15, 1956 in Olney. She survives.

Junior served in the Army during the Korean War from 1952-1954. He was a farmer and construction worker. He was a member of the Ebenezer United Methodist Church and attended Hopewell United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the American Legion. He will be sadly missed by his family, friends and all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife Helen E. Johnson; son Roger V. Johnson and wife Mary Ann; step-grandchildren, Amy Wimsatt and husband Scott and family, Andy Evans and wife Kim and family; 2 sisters, Betty Lynch and family and LaVerne Jones and family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Lucille Johnson, sister Debbie Johnson and nephew James Lynch.
