Of Effingham, Illinois passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family at 2:08 PM – Friday, January 16, 2015.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM – January 21, 2015 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Effingham, Illinois with Fr. Ron Hilt celebrating mass. Burial will be in St. Anthony's Cemetery in Effingham, Illinois with full military rites by the Effingham Post #120 American Legion. Visitation will be held 4:00-7:00 PM – Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at the church and 1 hour before the mass. In loving memory of Vince memorials may be made to the Family's Wishes. Arrangements are under the care of the Meyer Funeral Home in Dieterich, Illinois.

Vince was born on January 6, 1932 in Lillyville, Illinois the son of Edward and Emma (Vahling) Zumbahlen. He married Theresa McCormick on January 14, 1956 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Island Grove, Illinois and she survives. Vince lived most of his life farming, inventing, and contributing to his community in Jasper County before establishing Crossroads Commodities (which later became Interstate Commodities) in Effingham.

Vince's duty to his community was evident in his early teens when he helped build many of the barns in the area and helped local farmers. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict with the 45th Division in Heavy Duty Transportation. He was honorably discharged with a rank of SP4. In his midyears Vince was a man ahead of his time, paving the way for fertilizing crops using anhydrous ammonia, all-in-one single pass tillage planters, and incorporated farms. His initiative, mechanical expertise, and progressive ideas gave his fellow farmers more time and resources for their families, a value that Vince held dear to his heart. Vince was a 28-year member of the National Futures Association, a member of the Effingham Post #120 American Legion, and past member of the KC 3rd degree, Jasper County Pork Producers, and Farm Bureau. In his later years Vince was a member of the Mill Road Thresherman's Association and the IH Collectors.

Vince was known to many to love old-time music, a good joke or political discussion, and a card game with a bowl of homemade ice cream at his side. His exuberance for the simple things in life will be missed. Vince judged his success by the experiences he had, and his successors will do the same: in the end, he forgot more than most people ever know.

He is survived by his wife Theresa of 59 years; 4 daughters, Patti (Tom) Jansen of Mason, Illinois; Marcia Zumbahlen of Fayetteville, North Carolina, Lynda (John) Minor of Urbana, Illinois and Terri (Jeffrey) Fraterrigo of Chicago, Illinois; 5 sons Leon (Judy) Zumbahlen of Oblong, Illinois, Denny Zumbahlen of Altamont, Illinois, Michael Zumbahlen of Boca Raton, Florida, Alan (Sandra) Zumbahlen of Louisville, Illinois and Andrew Zumbahlen of Effingham, Illinois. 7 sisters Clara Brummer, Rosemary Bergbower, Marian Weishaar, Estella (Richard) Deters, Marie Dust, Christine (Donald) Litzelman, and Irene Correll. 2 brothers Cletus (Marilyn) Zumbahlen and Elmer (Elaine) Zumbahlen; sisters-in-laws Sandra Zumbahlen and Marilyn Zumbahlen. He is also survived by 19 loving grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Arthur, Sylvester, and Leonard Zumbahlen; and brothers-in-laws Sylvester "Bob" Brummer, Rapheal Bergbower, Vincent Weishaar, and Nicholas Dust.

The family would like to especially thank the staff at St. Anthony Memorial Hospital in Effingham and Lincolnland Hospice of Sarah Bush Lincoln in Mattoon for their loving care and support.
