William L "Bill" Powers, age 93, of Newton, Illinois, passed away at 2:42 PM – Thursday, May 16, 2024, at HSHS St John's Hospital in Springfield, Illinois.
Funeral services celebrating Bill's life will be held at 11:00 AM – Monday - May 20, 2024, at Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois. The burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Newton, Illinois. A visitation for family and friends will be held 5:00 to 7:00 PM - Sunday, May 19, 2024, at the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois. In loving memory of Bill, memorials may be made to the Freedom and Fire Church or the Jasper County Cancer Support Fund. The obituary can be viewed, and condolences left www.meyerfh.com.
William, better known as "Bill," was born on March 14, 1931, in Metea, Indiana, the son of Harlan and Susi (Evans) Powers. He married Jean Ann Myers on December 31, 1959, in Logansport, Indiana, and she preceded him in death on April 15, 2020.
Bill served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He worked at United Technologies in Newton for 35 years and later worked and retired from EJ Water after 25 years of service.
Bill was a member of the Rose Hill Community Church. He was an avid fan of Indiana University Basketball and the Chicago Cubs.
Bill is survived by:
Children – Keith (Emily) Powers of Logansport, Indiana; Lori Smith of Sainte Marie, Illinois; Brad Powers of Newton, Illinois; and Jeff (Tammy) Powers of Winslow, Indiana
Grandchildren – Ryan Smith, Brian Powers, Adam (Melissa) Smith, Nikki (Ryan) Britton, Ryan Artrip, Tara (Torez) Baham, Halley Powers (Andrew Tarus), and Alyx (Alan) Evans
Great Grandchildren – Carson, Connor, Audra, Quinn, Remington, Ellis, Jack, Gabe, Zyah, Asher, Melody, and Brecken
Sister – Phyllis Layman of Walton, Indiana
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son-in-law Paul E. Smith and several siblings.
