William L. Smith, age 83
Of Hidalgo, IL passed away at 8:40 AM – Thursday, July 10, 2014 at
Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Mattoon, IL.
Funeral services will be held at 5:00 PM – Saturday, July 12, 2014 at the Meyer Funeral Home (formerly Bishop Funeral Home) in Greenup, IL.
Private family burial will be in the Roselawn Cemetery in Terre Haute, IN. Visitation will be held 1 hour before the service.

William was born on January 25, 1931 in Sullivan, IN the son of Ruel and Mildred Ruth (Gussery) Smith. He married Patricia Petty on July 20, 1950 and she preceded him in death on December 2, 2005.
William retired from the CN&I Railroad after many years as a lineman. He was a member of the Faith Fellowship Church in Hidalgo; the Eagles, Moose and Elks lodge.
William enjoyed fishing, dancing and taking the grandchildren for a ride on his golf cart.
William is survived by:

Grandchildren – Brian (Alison) Smith of Savoy, IL; Zach (Jess) Smith of Taos, NM; Ruel (Kristia) Smith, Jr. of Stewardson, IL; Heidi Smith of Henton, IL; Amber (Kevin) Blake of Newton, IL; Jade (Jerod) Burton of Toledo, IL and Rachel Massey of Hidalgo, IL
Great Grandchildren – Jonathan Smith, Julia Smith, Cody Freese, Whitney Smith, Kassidy Smith, Jorey Nees, Jake Spencer; Kody Spencer, Lacey Spencer, Gracie Blake, Eli Blake, Owen Blake, Sage Burton, Ridge Burton, Kaleb Blake, Savannah Blake and an unborn great grandson.
William was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brother Bob Smith and an infant sister.
